Autumn 2010

We would like to thank all our guests for a great summer season, as well as all the guides in our team who helped to make it so successful.

Andi and I are currently trekking & mountaineering in China/Tibet until mid October. We may not be able to respond to your enquiries for the winter season immediately but will do so upon our return.

Take a look at this video showing clips of Winter 2010 to whet your appetite.

Enjoy the autumn and hope to see you soon!

Designated as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, this area is ideally suited to snow hoe touring. No other means of travel can bring participants so easily to such huge glaciers, high mountains & striking ice formations. A highlight is the impressive yet straightforward summit of the almost 4000m high Äbeni Flue.

We take the spectacular Jungfrau Train through the North Face of the Eiger to the Jungfrau Joch (3454m). After enjoying the panorama of the surrounding mountains we will commence the snow shoe trek, descending over the Jungfrau Firn Glacier for 8km with a 600 m descent, ascending briefly to the Konkordia Hut (2850m).

From the Konkordia Hut we descend to the almighty Konkordia Platz (2700m), the meeting point of four different glaciers and the centre of the largest glacier in Eurasia. Here the ice has a depth of 900m.  We traverse the Grosser Aletschfirn Glacier for 8 km and ascend for 390m to the literally perched on a rock Hollandia Hut (3240m).

Day three is summit day. We set off early for this accessible-for-all peak, the Äbeni Flue (3962m – very nearly a 4000m peak). From the summit, enjoy amazing views of the surrounding mountains (Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau) and Mont Blanc in the distance. Total distance for the day is 8km and 720m ascent and descent. Only day packs needed today as we return to the Hollandia Hut.

A later start on the final day, descending on the Lang Glacier, avoiding the deep crevasses, down through the Lötschental to Blatten (1600m) from where we will continue on public transport back to Interlaken. This is a long 12km but it is all downhill!

The huts are basic– dorm beds, no showering or drinking water. Boiled drinking water available.

Highlights:   Striking ice formations, the overwhelming size of the Konkordia Platz, fantastic views from the summit of the Äbeni Flue.

Fitness:         Able to hike for 6 - 7 hours over technically easy terrain

Group:           Maximum of 8 participants per Mountain Guide
